BARNABAS CENTER’S ANNUAL MEETING HIGHLIGHTS SUCCESSES AND ELECTS NEW OFFICERS TO THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS

Fernandina Beach, FL – On January 25th, Barnabas Center conducted its annual membership meeting, where agency leaders presented updates on hope delivery initiatives, governance decisions, program accomplishments, and financial reports.

ANNUAL IMPACT REPORT HIGHLIGHTS INCLUDE:

  • Provided Empowerment Programs to 263 households to avoid homelessness with rent, mortgage and utility payments totaling $134,378. 
  • The Nutrition Services program served 3,342 households and processed more than 644,140 pounds of healthy food.  More than 9,854 children were served.

  • 1,208 uninsured adults received low-cost or free medical, dental, behavioral health, telehealth and/or vision services through 4,403 separate service encounters.  $2.8 million in healthcare services was donated by the Baptist Health system, doctors, specialists and other healthcare providers.

  • 496 active volunteers donated 14,420 hours of service to Barnabas’ critical programs valued at $399,146.

  • 72 households in need received furnishings, clothing, and other household items through Barnabas Center’s resale stores

Jamie Reynolds, President and CEO of Barnabas Center, summarized the organization’s enhanced initiatives in West Nassau County. These include a mobile health team, expanded food distributions, medical and financial assistance in Callahan, including a new nurse practitioner, and dental services in Hilliard.

Wayne McLellan, chair, welcomed the newest board member, Sarah Edwards, and thanked outgoing board members Ed Hubel and Janet Pfeffer for their support and dedication as board members.  Wayne also presented the governance report highlights, which are listed below.  Gratitude was expressed to the Chesapeake Utilities Corporation/Florida Public Utilities for hosting the Annual Meeting in the beautiful Wildlight setting.

Jonathan Simpson, Board Treasurer, announced that Barnabas Center received Charity Navigator’s highest 4-star rating for efficiency, effectiveness, and transparency for sixteen consecutive years; only 1% of charities rated in the US have achieved this status. In addition, Simpson announced that Barnabas Center recently received the GuideStar Platinum Seal of Transparency.
