Barnabas Shines Spotlight on Breast Cancer Awareness Month

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month and an opportune time to educate oneself about the disease that affects one in eight women in the United States in their lifetime. There are 250,000 women diagnosed with breast cancer each year. Early detection includes performing monthly breast self-exams and scheduling regular clinical screenings and mammograms.

Barnabas Health Services offers mammograms, screenings and other related wellness exams to uninsured and low-to-moderate income women throughout Nassau County. Gerriā€™s Corner is another Barnabas resource for women who are battling cancer by offering a safe, confidential place to receive information, support and comfort items at no-cost.

Barnabas Health Services is able to provide breast cancer screenings and treatment to uninsured women thanks to its partnership with Baptist Medical Center Nassau and Baptist MD Anderson Cancer Center. Additionally, Barnabas thanks Ackerman Cancer Center that provides cancer treatment to women with breast cancer.

With the extraordinary support of Baptist Medical Center Nassau, Baptist MD Anderson, Ackerman Cancer Center and generous donors, uninsured women in Nassau County have access to life saving prevention and treatment services.
