3rd annual Barnabas Center – Hometown Heroes a Success!

Fernandina Beach, FL – This year’s 3rd annual Barnabas Center Fashion Show Honoring Hometown Heroes, which took place on Monday, February 26, from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Host Sponsor Mocama Beer Company, was officially sold out. The Barnabas Center 2024 Hometown Heroes Fashion Show was an evening of gratitude Honoring Hometown Heroes in our Healthy Community. These heroes worked tirelessly to give us the Healthy Community we all enjoyed. They served in our schools, healthcare facilities, essential and social services divisions, and as first responders.

The Hometown Heroes Fashion Show acknowledged their commitment to Nassau County and provided a means to celebrate the dedication that made Nassau County a healthy place to live. The fashion show was crafted to focus on Nassau County Heroes and to acquaint attendees with Barnabas Center Health Services.

The 2024 Hometown Heroes who were recognized included:

  • Dr. Ken Owens, D.D.S., Dentist Volunteer at Barnabas Center
  • Maryellen Crocker, Director, Gracie’s Kitchen
  • Greg Shurman, Barnabas Ambassador and Mentor at Take Stock in Children
  • Emma Venerdi, Community Advocate
  • Chris Youngman, Fernandina Beach Fireman of the Year
  • Anne and Bill Gower, Community Champions
  • Keith Wingate, President, Northeast Florida Fair
  • Ashley Taylor, Nassau County School District Teacher of the Year
  • Becca Thomas, 2023 Florida Big Sister of the Year, Big Brothers/Big Sisters

When asked about the 3rd annual Hometown Heroes Fashion Show, Jamie Reynolds, Barnabas Center President and CEO, said, “This event was a testament to the unwavering commitment of our community in Nassau County. We honored and applauded the dedication of our local heroes who tirelessly strived to make Nassau County a healthier place to live. It was truly heartening to witness the unity of hometown heroes coming together to support our neighbors in need. From first responders to educators, the healthcare community, grocery stores, and the wonderful people in our neighborhoods, Nassau County was brimming with hometown heroes. Barnabas was just one piece of the puzzle, delivering hope and making a meaningful impact on the community we cherished.”
