Cherry Gallagher recently competed in the Long Course Aquabike biathlon to raise funds for Barnabas in honor of her longtime friend and Barnabas board member, Liza Cotter, who was injured in a traumatic bike accident.
“I’m excited to report that I won first place in my 70-75 age group,” Cherry said. “It was grueling, but I stayed focused on how strongly Liza has managed her injuries from the accident and I did it!”
When Liza heard that Cherry won the gold medal, she was in awe of her friend’s steadfast commitment to not only finish the tough biathlon, but to raise funds for Barnabas’ clients and patients who face adversity every day.
“I am honored that Cherry competed in this extremely difficult race to benefit Barnabas. We are both fortunate to have the resources to help us through life’s ups and downs, unlike the folks in our community who need Barnabas’ programs and services to feed their children, obtain medical care and even survive,” Liza said. “Cherry and I are deeply grateful for the outpouring of support from our close friends and loving families. We never expected to raise tens of thousands of dollars, but we did it!”
Barnabas congratulates Liza and Cherry on their accomplishments and thanks them for their generous donation. To learn more about Barnabas, please call (904) 261-7000, or visit https://barnabasnassau.org/.
