Healthy, nourishing food options are hard to come by for some Nassau County students. That’s why for the past three years, Barnabas’ Meal Pack program has provided healthy food – child-friendly cans of soup, cereal and juice – to students enrolled in the Nassau County School system’s Families in Transition program.
This September, Barnabas Meal Packs will be distributed each week to approximately 80 hungry school children in Hilliard, Callahan and Bryceville elementary schools.
Students take the food home on Fridays. Barnabas volunteers and staff pack food items every week for teachers to distribute to these students in need.
Barnabas partners with the Families in Transition program for the Meal Pack Program. The Program helps school students who have lost housing and now live in a campground, temporary trailer, doubled-up with family or friends, or in another type of inadequate housing.
In addition to Meal Packs, families in West Nassau County also have the opportunity to attend Barnabas Mobile Food Distributions twice per month in Callahan.
